A bailey bridge on a canal in Dulla area, better known as Dulla Bailey Bridge, under Delduar upazila in Tangail collapsed due to the heavy weight of a sand laden truck early Saturday.

As a result, vehicular movement on Tangail-Delduar-Manikganj Road remained suspended since the collapse and the commuters have been enduring immense sufferings to cross the place on the road.

Locals and officials said that the Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel had been trying to salvage the truck from the canal.

They said that the truck driver received minor injuries and received primary treatment at a local hospital.

Delduar upazila nirbahi officer Farhana Ali said they marked both sides of the bridge with red flags to avoid any kind of further untoward incident.

‘We also informed the authorities concerned to take appropriate initiatives. Works are going on to restore vehicular movement on the road,’ she said.
